Drive Test using TEMS
In general, Drive Test can be define as a methode that used to verify the actual condition of RF signal certain operator (excelcomindo, telkomsel, indosat, mobile8) at certain place.
Several functions of drive test :
- Analyzing customer complaint of certain operator in their home or office area
- Finding problem in BTS ( Timeslot Check, TRX Check, Swap Feeder)
- Analyzing the result of optimization process (continuity and all of area)
There are softwares can be used for drivetest that installed on laptop. TEMS Investigation (Ericsson), NEMO (Nokia).
Here the steps to start learning drivetest with TEMS Investigation :
3. TEMS Investigation :
- Port Equipment Configurations
- Command Sequence Configurations
6. Post Processing :
7. Trouble Shooting :
- Antenna Tilt
Tolong kritik dan tambahan atas kekurangan artikel diatas ya!!!
| Posted 2 years, 12 months agoThx
First of all, English please ..
I would like to say, that was a nice introduction. There should be a lot objectives on drive test, and would recommend to move on further short description on technical how-to, e.g. refer to TEMS menus or features. Though that previous posts on other blog you’ve written is good, why don’t you import them into this blog?
Higher level on using of such field test tool surely will make this blog very interesting, such as tips, drive test KPI and post processing.
The following terminologies and functionality shall be considered for that:
- information element description on GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSPA on TEMS;
- how to prepare cell file;
- how to create theme of radio parameters;
- exporting TEMS log into other format;
- generating drive test report using TEMS wizard;
- Route Analysis how-to
- frequency plan and tuning using TEMS map;
- use case of frequency scanning and interference investigation;
- use case of swapped antenna/feeder;
- use case of missing neighbors;
- use case of overshoot or island coverage;
- use case of pilot pollution identification;
- use case of model tuning
- use case of hardware defective identification;
- use case of signal propagation characteristic on particular clutter type;
Hope it will not confuse you, as you have requested for some feedback
Cheers.
| Posted 2 years, 11 months agowaw, thanks a lot for your feedback mr.gigih.
yes, i’ll try to make more details “how to” in the other page of my blog.
from terminology that u’ve said,
that was made me have more knowledge about the function of drivetest.
thank you.
and i hope u’ll never tired to give advice.
*sorry if my english too bad

u just unbelieveble bro, u r my idol seriously
nice share n keep writing,
i just want to ask u something
can u tell us about GSM and or WCDMA parameters please
so we can go drivetest not only just collecting data, but also analyze and realy know what are we doing for
so there is value added in our job, right ?
sukur mengarah ke optim bro, that will be so much noise .. hehe .. so nice kali ye

| Posted 1 year, 4 months agoHi Gesang Thanks for your coming in my blog,
Do you mean parameter in RBS/Node B?
That was a lot of parameters gesang, for ERICSSON you can read on ALEX and for SIEMENS open the E-DOC.
For drive test troubleshooting, u can see the behave on the RF condition.
For Example in GSM, take a look at several info elements such as :
- RxLevIdle (for coverage analysis)
- RxQual (Quality of RF based on BER)
- SQI (Quality of Voice based on BER & FER [Ericsson™])
- C/I (Co Channel Interference Indication, for No Hopping can tolerate > 12dB, Hopping can tolerate > 9dB)
- C/A (Adjecent Channel Interference Indication, for No Hopping can tolerate > -9dBm, Hopping can tolerate > -6 dBm)
In WCDMA, take a look at several info elements such as :
- CPICH RSCP (Receive Signal Code Power, Indication of Signal Strength)
- CPICH Ec/No (Ec/No is Energy of the Chip / Noise. This noise can be noise created by the 3G cell itself as the traffic increases, external noise source, other 3G cells causing a noise increase (pilot pollution))
- CPICH Ec/Io (Ec/Io is the Energy of the Chip / the noise made by this cell only)
For Packet Service (PS) test, see the Coding Scheme/Modulation Coding Scame (GPRS/EDGE) and Spreading Factor “SF” (WCDMA) for the level speed of downlink throughput. For investigate throughput caused of RF condition, we can see on lower layer (RLC Throughput). For user perception, see on Application Throughput and Session Application Throughput.

Hello.
I have some problems with tuning Macro Model for UMTS in Asset 7.0
I made log files with extension .log using Tems Investigation 8.2.3. To calibrate my propagation model I need to download my log files and using Measurements botton in Tools I am able to do it.
But some problems appeared when I started downloading log files, namely :
1.When I make drive tests do I need to get attached to one particular cell and keep on getting attached to that cell while Tems loses signal strength (CPICH RSCP) from that cell or I can make drive tests in a scanner mode when I don’t attach to a particular cell and receive CPICH RSCP from all available Nodes B which there are in that place.
2.Asset 7.0 doesn’t understand log files with extension .log and I need to transform log files with extension .log into log files with extension .fmt using Tems Investigatin.
But the questiоn is what parameters of UMTS I need to extract from log files with extension .log in order to generate log files with extension .fmt. ?????
I think that I need the folloving :
-active set scrambling code
-active set cell name
-active set CPICH RSCP
-latitude and longitude
In manual “Asset 7.0 User reference Guide” on the page of 81 there is nothing about it!!!!!
On the page 89 something is mentioned about Cell ID and SC and that is all.
I am looking forward to receive a message from you
| Posted 5 months, 4 weeks agoBest wishes Sergei
Hi Sergei, thank you for coming and sorry for late response.
1. I haven’t do the propagation model before, but i think for propagation model, no need to lock only for SC for each Cell/Site. Its different thing if you want to make a Single Site Verification (SSV), you have to lock SC for each Cell/Site.
2. Select Export Logfile (*.log) into *.txt, when change the file type into *.fmt. I dont have any template for Asset.
